November Results

O hai dere.
So november actually turned out to be my best month so far, which is pretty unexpected since i was break even around mid november.

I basically played 6 max + MTTs for the rest of the month and it went pretty well and i managed not to have a long bad stretch resulting in some sick profit. Defintely feel the extra time ive been reviewing my game and studying some spots worked out great for me.

So heres my stats/results from november @ ipoker;

+ about 2500$ rakeback, makes that 13,000$ up total on sng, also cashed in quite a few MTTs for a profit of about 3k, so 16,000$ total on ipoker made. I also am up a bit in cash for about 1.5k, so that makes it about 17,500$ for the month, which is my best month yet.

I bought a nice 50" Plasma TV with a nice stand also which i setup today, it looks sick and so smooth playing PS3 on it.

Also, with the exchange rates as they are, $ is worth so much more now than it was like months ago, so 17.5k$ is around 11,700£, ship it.

November Goals.

hey so havent posted here in a while, had a slacky october, reviewed some etc.
only made a couple of 1000$ but probably ran worst i have so far so its np.

anyway i posted my november goals on 2+2 so i thought i'd share em here;

* 86000 VPP by december 31st starting with 2k BR.
* play good/run good.
* start going to the gym, get into routine to possibly go for SNE next year.
* not get mad in the slightest about running uber bad vs the 16/27 regs so far who have quite alot of leaks.
* possibly make a video at each stage i move up > 16 > 27 > 38 etc.
* at least 6-8 hours 5+ days a week 21 tabling continous.

i started playing stars at the end of october, played over 700 games in the last 5 days. i reached goldstar from scratch, so november i will get platinum and hopefully supernova ready for january if i decide to go for supernova elite.

My experience on stars so far has been good, ive ran pretty badly, some of the regs make really questionable plays, yet they are fairly big winners :(

my hand really doesnt matter here, he knows im on ATC, the bad beat isnt the case.
even when im pushing 100%, its still -0.3% EV for him to call here with the other shortie, and thats when im on 100%, any lower and it becomes a really huge mistake.

Going through hands with this dude i found another spot where i found an obvious leak of his, so i decided to run that too.

This is just ridiculous from a winning regular.. he is like 15% roi over 3k+ games.
his call is -0.7% if im on 100%, any less than 100% and it becomes huge.

as im in a berating mood, ill post another hand from one of the FEW i've played with him, to spot this many obvious leaks after only a few games is ridiculous, he must have a personal vendetta against me or something.

If he puts me on about 5% here, which is AQo+, 99+, which for 12BBs is probably the loosest range, this is a -1.7% call and its such a huge leak...
anyway thats enough berating lol. i hope he doesnt read this and adapts ;)
hopefully november will be a good month, i plan to play at least 3000 SNGs towards making supernova, and hopefully i can run well, ive basically had a pretty bad stretch on stars of about 1500 games which is pretty gay since i only just started here, but good to have a bad patch i guess, makes the good days feel even better :)

September is over...... finally.

Longest month ever. I did a rake race with a friend, basically playing non stop the whole month, we played about 8 hours a day each. We didn't run so well expectation wise, but we still managed to make 15000$, so $7500 each or £4100, not a bad month but i am hoping to make more playing my 10 max STT's this month in october.

The whole month was such a grind, im so glad its over, we played over 6000 SNGs together. I'm going to try and not play poker today (Tues 30th) to take a break, but i probably will end up playing, though i really should take a break, i cant help myself, im just a degen. So when i wake up (its 3am now) im going to try and not play, think i will go play some golf, maybe go to the gym for a swim or something, play some PS3, watch some more 24 which ive just started getting into and it is pretty cool so far, Jack Bauer is a pro.

On a side note, i've been swimming a little bit recently, going early in the mornings, its full of old people. They basically group up in a corner and whenever a women comes in the pool they will talk about her looks etc, its pretty funny. Me and Ben decided to label them the OAPC, Old Aged Pool Crew. They also shower naked, which isnt a pleasant site, but when i decided to shower naked myself, i did feel rather blessed. It sucks that im a crap swimmer though. Does anyone want to teach me how to swim?

Back to poker, september was probably my biggest volume month due to the amount we had to play, which i guess is good, because following months will seem easier, especially as it wasnt that fun to play constantly like that. It is a little weird than im not to happy about getting £4000 for a months work, but looking at expectations i should be making a bit more than that by playing 10 mans with less volume.

I will post up some October goals in the next few days, and i really think i will try my best to achieve them.

Life at the new flat.

Hey so me and ben have been in the flat since thursday night now, and we've been putting in some decent volume. On Saturday i played 14 hours, sunday i played 10 hours, monday i played 8 hours, although i did slack a bit yesterday and only played about 6 hours. Once i buy some new stuff for flat, aka nice TV/decorate my room up a bit more, ill post some pics on here, prob wont be till end of september/early october tho.

Poker is going good, i've been doing a rake race with a friend, which basically means we play non stop throughough the month and earn as much rake as possible. At the end of september we will split the 20,000$ between us that we win for the race, not a great amount of $$$ for the time we put in, but its pretty nice. In October tho i will be putting in a shit load of volume on ipoker+ongame 50$+ 10 max, and hoping to put in at least 2.5k games a month, hoping to make at least 10,000$ for the first month and hopefully more on the following. I'm hoping to hit an hourly rate of about 100$/hr, but we will see how the month plays out.

I am also looking to coach+stake a few players, not high limits but basically 10-30$ tournaments to start off with, basically you can play using my money, i will give you personal coaching and we split the $ 50/50, i will start staking in october, im basically offering a complete package which means personal coaching from me, which will help you beat the higher games + improve your game endlessly(unless your better than me;)) and hopefully just make a decent amount of money for the both of us, send me an email or add me on msn @ james_cawley@hotmail.com . If your are living near Cardiff in Wales, id also be willing to give like a 1 week coaching session where you can stay with me + ben and we can just sweat you non stop + just coach. Slightly Delayed Update...

Ok so haven't posted much and got flamed from some people to update it, so im gunna.

Basically i've been looking for a place to live, opting to move out with my friend ben, whose also a poker player which is just sweet. We finally found somewhere 2 days ago, its a top floor apartment along whitchurch road, pretty cool inside, very spacious, 2 nice double bedrooms, sick kitchen + lounge, gunna be perfect for our poker setup, and grinding with a fellow poker player is gunna be sick in the new flat, looking to put in some heavy days and start making some serious money.

We will be moving in next thursday, ive already payed for and setup internet there so we are ready to go straight away, and you can expect me play alot of volume, and i will be updating my blog alot more in the new place, as i will be playing alot more poker so will have more results to post.

On the poker side of things, i actually played some 6 max again after alot of studying again on the ICM side of the 6 max games, and i still managed to run awful, i made like 8000$, then immediately just went downhill and lost like 12k, so lost like 4k in total(wont be playing em again... keep telling myself that).

Yeh so that was pretty sick, and as i knew i need to make a fair amount of money to have in the bank ready to move out, i just went back to oldschool 10 max STT grinding, basically looked at my main accounts 10 max results.. these are my results/graph for 10 max STTs only...

yeh so a slight BE period on my new games but i felt i ran really bad and to maintain break even took quite a bit of tilt control ;)

Ok so, ill be updating more, and planning to put alot of volume in september + october. Hopefully it works out good and ill be posting results pretty often.

Also, got badbeated, i bought new golf clubs 2 weeks ago, even though id never played golf before that thought id start with some good clubs, cost about 150£. So was at the driving range yesterday playing around, lining up my shot with the pitching iron, take my swing, as soon as i make connection i notice the club is light as a feather, so i look at the end, theres no iron at the end of it, i look forward, and i can see the end of my club flying past the 50yard mark....
hoping to get a replacement, was funny at the time though :D

NL200 So Far.

So i moved to nl200 after playing a little more at NL100, sustained my 5ptBB/100 there.
within my first hour of moving up to NL200, i dropped 6 BI's. It was pretty sick, back to back coolers/bad beats etc. Between 7 hands of AA and KK, my Win at Showdown % was 0.

Getting money in ahead is what i do best



The other hands are pretty much standard coolers of 4betting AA preflop, getting it all in on a 259 flop vs 55, or vs KK and him turning a King etc.

I played a small 1 hour session earlier, which went pretty decently, made about 150$, im gunna try put in some proper volume this week.

Cash Games so far.

So i've been trying to play some cash games recently, at the .5/1$ blind level, 100$ buyin. i've been 16 tabling these tables, full ring, playing about 1000 hands an hour. played about 16k hands so far in the last week or so, been playing sngs too so thats why i havent got 25k+, but this week gunna put in some heavy volume, hopefully 25k hands(25 hours ish).
Its going fairly good, running just under 5ptBB/100, which is 10$ every 100 hands, 1000 hands an hour = 100$/hr roughly, which is decent. I'm going to be receiving some coaching also soon and then moving up to 1/2$ 200$ buyin games where i hope to beat them, which will give me a pretty sick hourly. i think with the coaching + my own poker game i feel i can move up to nl200 without a problem, and hopefully after 50-100k hands of that maybe take some shots at nl400.

running just about upto my equity in poker ev, which means im not running hot, or bad, just average, but im happy with that. im enjoying poker alot more also as its nice to actually think alot more compared to sng where there is alot push/fold mode going down.

Hopefully my next post will be my 50k hand graph, which will include some nl200, and i hope it turns out good.

Chilipoker, sick vip system.

so im playing some games @ chilipoker now also, good software + traffic, and really goo d promotions with a sick VIP system, see some of the things you can use your pokerpoints by clicking the banner to get on the site and going to the hotshop. alot of different welcome offers for low volume or high volume players also, some include a 600$ 100% deposit + an 80gb ipod. i recommend the site to all players, as it rewards you heavily for just playing, with the promotions.

Week 3.

Not so good, as i was doing well as usual at the 10 max games, i decided to take a shot again at the 200$ 6 max games, and run awfully bad again, which really sucks. so total no i have lost over 8000$ at the 200$ games, an i wont be playing them again for at least 2 months, i've made a promise to myself i wouldnt, even though im +EV in the games, i still cant handle it yet.

so since last week, i've made 3700 in 10 max games, but have lost 6000 in 100-200$ 6 max, which sucks.

so im down 2000$ this week. next week i hope to post my results without having them crippled by the huge losses at the 200s.

so, week3: 20 hours played, -2000$

on a side note, i whacked 500$ on stars to build a bankroll there while im not playing at ipoker, im starting at the 6.50$ games an working my way up, i've played over 300 games there this week, and am up 300$ there... ship it.

Also i've reached 20th in the leaderboards already, hoping to improve on that.

Week 2.

i remembered again post this weeks resuls, as followed:

10th june: 4.5 hours played, -1700$
11th june: 4 hour played, -+0$, break even.
12th june: 1.5 hour played, +1500$
13th june: 8 hours played, +700$
14th june: 2 hours played, +500$.

So overall a good week, had some biggish swongs but it turned out ok.
Total week2: 20 hours played, 1000$ profit. 50$ per hour without rakeback.

Bristol

As you know i went to bristol for the regional finals of redtooth poker league, basically there is different 13 week leagues all around the uk, and then top2 from each league go through to the regional finals.

This event started at 2pm on sunday, an had about 100 entrants, places 1-8 got a spot in the national finals next march, 1st place got a measly £100. Anyway i finished 5th an got a spot in he finals which was cool, i got knocked out when i shoved QQ UTG with 5BBs, only to get called by AK and AA, AA held up.

The final should be cool though, its a bigger prize pool and it will be a good experience for my live play.

June Week 1.

So heres how the first week has gone.
Between the 1st and 4th, i kinda didnt keep detailed track of my results as i only thought of doing this from the 5th so:

1st-4th June: around 10 hours played, total profit 2400$.
5th June: 2.5 hours played, 300$ profit.
6th June: 7 hours played, 70$ made.

Week 1: 20 hours played. 2770$ Profit.

I didnt play any today because im going to bristol tomorow for a poker tournament, nothing big, but i wanted a break from poker for the weekend. So a good solid first week, especially for the first few days. Going to put in a heavy volume next week.

Random results + June goals.

I'm waiting for a tournament to start on Everybodies golf for PS3, going to take like 15 mins so thought i'd post some stuff.

I played for about 4 and a half hours today, not that much as my friend joey came around and sweated a session and was kinda watching him play on PS3 a little also so was just playing like 6-9 tables. It went pretty good actually, overall up 1750$ for the day, which is defintely a good sign.

I really think my best game is 10 max, so im playing the majority of games there but mixing in a few 6 maxes still, more of them run so i can get more volume in etc. I'm not sure why im not doing as good in the 6 max because i think im playing pretty well, maybe it was just the brutal swong i had at the 200s losing 4000$ in 1 day? im gunna grind out june mainly playing the 10 maxes, as im going to be posting quite detailed weekly results(i hope) and id like to have a decent idea at just how well im doing, hourly wise aswell.

June Goals.

Well i guess i should aim for around 8-10% ROI, im going to be playing 50+100s so if i can manage about 5$ avg profit ill be v.happy, also id like to play about 1200 games minimum. So ill take a shot at making $6000 in just profit, maybe optimistic after my recent runnings, but im sure i can pull it off.

I'll also aim to hit the sharkscope leaderboards once again now i'm playing the 10 maxes more, so; Reach top 20 of $36-100 9-10 Single Seated Tournament Leaderboard.

And last but not least, well maybe least, i'd like to lose -5lbs. I've recently been playing Wii Fit and its really good, the wii in general actually. I've been dabbling in a bit of yoga... seriously, lol. The Wii fit board weights you etc, so ill know if i hit that goal anyway.

3 Goals, might add some more but they will do for now, my tournament is starting.

Return of the blogging(May results)

Sorry i haven't been posting in a while, mainly due to some rough patches and the fact i've been trying to get in alot of volume and guess i've just been a bit busy. i have been playing alot of 6 max games, mainly at the 100$/200$ level, and unfortuantely ran bad at the 200s, pretty frustrating, so May was just full of grinding the 50/100s games, then going back to the 200s and just getting 3 outted. Also suffered some problems with the network, which happend while i had 9 tables open, 4 of them being 200$ games 5 being 100$ games, i managed to get a refund on these so that was cool, frustrating but cool.
So...



May: Total profit: 1300$+ the 1300$ refund = 2600$.
Rakeback: 3500$
Total made in may: 6100$

So, forgetting about the running bad at the biggest game etcs, it wasnt as bad as a month as i thought it was. Im pretty confident in my 6 max game, although im sure i still have a few leaks im trying to patch compared to my 9-10 max games.

June is starting off ok, im playing more 10 max games again, mixing in a few 100$ 6 maxes. im basically playing 9 tables of 10 max + 3 6 max tables on the side for a decent hourly hopefully. Im gunna try post weekly/monthly results from now on and post some random crap when im bored, which will hopefully be every saturday which happens to be at the end of the first week of june, so good timing to start posting my weekly results.

iPoker and stars updates

Just thought i'd like to post about my recent results @ ipoker, which after running the worst i've ever ran during all the time i've been playing, its finally starting to pick up, this doesnt mean im on a heater, but im actually in profit for my last 100 games, which is a relief, hopefully that continues and ill be linking some aprils results soon towards the end of April.

Anyway, i've been playing casually at pokerstars like i said, played around 400 games last week, it's been going ok, i'd like to think im not running that good after witnessing some of the crazy things that are going on but i can't complain with the profit. Turning the frown upside down.

Well as you know i recently posted about how bad i've been running at the 50s/100s. So i decided to take a break for a day or two from them, and i decided to put some money onto pokerstars for the BOP deposit bonus + play some low level SnGs on my first ever poker account, which is at pokerstars ;). Now, im guna post the picture of my sharkscope graph to show you how i was when i first played.

As you can see, i wasn't that bad... ok i sucked, those games were from January 2007.
I'd like to think i've learned pretty fast and think im a pretty decent player now, far from being a pro, but i feel im good enough to play for a living now, as i've done for the last few months.

Ok so pretty much my idea is to play casually at stars, late at nights after 12/1am where the traffic at ipoker is poor. So i can go play 12-16 tables @ stars at 1am+ for a few hours, instead of 4-5 tables @ iPoker. My goal is to lose the -ROI asap ;) and actually get a nice looking graph, and earn some nice on the side profit, i think it will also help my learning curve, playing a slightly different structure, site and players, but at a lower level.

So, so far i've played around 125 games or something, and im doing pretty ok, i'm not running badly, nor would i say im on a heater or anything, so hopefully i'll be coming back next week with a nice smile on my graph ;)

Aprils Fool's Day, or maybe week..

Haven't been posting much as i've been running bad and trying to keep of the pc as much as possible while im not playing to take a break. I'm currently just coming off(i hope) a 60 buyin downswing, its not a nice feeling, but i feel a handled it fairly well so i might've saved myself a few buyins instead of tilting, which was very hard to do because i've never ran so bad in my life :D. Anyway im writing here just to say i've had a day's break, and im hoping i can trigger something off and get out of this downswing and go back to winning ;) i think i deserve to run hot for a while now, so hopefully this is the day. I'll post back soon in a few days to say how it's gone.

So just over 7000$ profit which is a good month, ran pretty good at the start then it evened out, and ends in a little downswing(which im still in atm, not the best start to April ;)) but im happy with March. I played over 1000 games which is ok considering i only play 3-4 days a week. I hope April can be just as successful and maybe even more, keep an eye out for pics of my car and some general blogging soon.

New car

Slightly off topic but thought i'd post as im a bit tired and dont want to play at the moment. I bought my first car today, its a Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 injection. Not too bad for my first car and i will be doing it up a little bit, a new exhaust and a nice sound system i think will come first. I'll defintely post some pics on here once i take some.

So i spent today waking up at 9am after having about 3 hours of sleep, to have a look at the car which a guy brought around to my house, i loved it as soon as i saw it and snapped it up. I then proceeded to have my driving lesson @ 11:30, which is going fine by the way and im fairly confident i can pass when i have my main test, which is on the 21st April. After my driving lesson i washed and waxed the car as it was a little dirty, and furry inside, which is hoovered also, and it looks new, and it really does look nice.

On a poker note i've had a pretty bad run the last 2 days, seems i caught the variance master on a bad day and had some pretty horrible sessions, which i went down over a 1000$, but im happy to say i recovered that loss in a sick session tonight which feels good to sit here in profit for the week :)

I noticed i've played just over 500 games now at the 20s on ipoker, and thought i'd share the results and how they're going.

As you can see im running fairly well result wise, with a 23% ROI you cant complain. These are a mix of regular + turbo games, but mainly turbo games. Im steering away from the 20s unless i play late at night where the 50$+ games have low traffic where i'll load up a few 20s to keep the volume up.
anyway :] ill update again soon, with end of month results/profit etc, which hopefully i can keep dwindling up the profit ladder :)

Beats and Brags

Hey, thought i'd post something as im waiting for my food, think i've played around 250 this week and i havent been here everyday so its not too bad. I've had my ups and downs, but im currently in about 1500$ profit since last week which isnt bad considering that i've not been running too well showdown wise. I'd like to share a hand which i thought was a little sick, but again, i took it pretty well and with it being a 100$ game i think i kept my cool which i really think im getting good at, im losing less when im losing, which is really adds profit if you can apply it to your game by playing your best even when you've lost 9 out of the last 10 KK vs underpair/undercard showdowns( im not whining.. ;) ), it was really fascinating to see that after a 3 hour session losing 6 pairs of kings all in preflop as a 4 to 1 favourite, and various other runner runners, that i finished 70$ up, which is really sick, if i had let it get to me early on, i've no doubt i would've been down at least 300-400$ that session, so im really pleased out how well im playing when im losing.

Mid March Update.

yoyo, so thought i'd post like i said i would during march about my progress now i've switched back to 10 mans. It is going well to be quite honest, and though personally i wouldn't say im running hot, showdown wise at least im having a fair share of bad beats, but im handling them very well and i think im almost near to not even sweating when losing QQ to K9o on a 200$ bubble, after taking that beat and just carrying on playing in harmony was good to know about myself.
So i've made about 6500$ profit in the last 2 weeks, but i havent played that much, ive had a virus which made me feel like shit so i was playing crappy 1-2 hour sessions. I've also been a bit busy with some live event(which didnt go so well after running QQ into KK) which hasnt helped with the volume, but ive promised myself i'll put in some heavy volume now towards the end of march.
Ive been playing 10-30$ turbo games to keep the games running and 50-100$ normals, and its working great. I'll be updating how well im doing within the next 2 weeks or so again, defintely towards the end of march, hopefully it will be good news:)

On a side note i just passed my driving theory test ( brag: got 50/50 on the questions :D )
and have my driving test booked for the 21st of April, and im confident i can pass, so i'll be looking for a car soon which will be fun, also being able to drive to the casino / events is a big +.

No more jackpot grinding.

As most people who know me know, ive been grinding the 50+9 jackpot games, these are 6 max games, with top3 payout and 1000 starting chips, very bad value, but if you win 6 in a row you get like 60,000$ and top2 6 in a row you get 750$, which is nice, but you just cant win it enough to make it +EV playin these games(which over 1300 games ive realised) The extra rakeback is nice, as the 50s are usually 50+5, your paying 50+9, and with a decent rakeback system you can make nice money here. So over 1300 games i ran at 2% ROI according to sharkscope, only getting 2x750$ jackpot things. Along with the rakeback it was a nice earner, but there is hardly any bubble to really dominate and use decent SNG skills to really own other players, so the variance and general motivation wasnt there, and i really dont think anyone can run over 5% at these games. Anyway, im now back playing 10 man games, mainly $50+5s, but throwing in some 100s + 200s, and mixing in some 20s+30s for some extra volume. I really feel confident playing the 10 mans, with 1500 chips instead of the old 1000 in the jackpots, its like a breathe of fresh air for cbetting and outplaying others. With a real bubble now, with 3rd place being double the buyin i can actually "own" it unlike the jackpot games. Im pretty confident in my game at the moment and really feel im going to do well in the upcoming games, im running pretty good so far over the first 100 games netting in some big profit, and i hope to keep it up (i deserve it, been on a breakeven/downswing for a 300-500 games now) . So keep track of me on sharkscope, and its probably best to filter out the jackpot games, you can do this by clicking advanced search, then choosing 20-200 Buying, and 10 man only, no 6 max games. Pretty decent stats, but for 10 mans, its still a small sample, but expect some heavy volume during march:)

Variance

It happens to us all sometimes, some of us more than others, but it does happen, and you can do nothing about it(apart from pretend to handle it well) I've suffered this demon over the past 500 sng's, just about breaking even somehow, and it doesnt feel good. theres not much to do to avoid it, or cope with it better, but taking breaks does help, at least stop any tilt creeping in. the last week or so i havent played as much, and i feel alot more enthuisastic about playing again, and im even coping fine with the variance, and, touch wood, i hope im out of it now:)
My advice to anyone else facing any downswings or variance is quite simple:
Be positive, if for any second u feel like your just playing to lose, quit playing, quit loading, take a break. You have to remember the basics, and dont see losing as just losing and with a bad attitude u make worse calls, and it affects ur judging. always remember every thing is profit, if you lose 2 buyins less than you shouldve because u kept your cool instead of getting depressed/playing worse, then your UP 2 buyins.
Playing during variance, i take this approach. I sit down, in a good mood, and drill it in that you will be in a good streak now, i play then, until i get noticably bad luck(again) and i quit before it effects me, i take a break, shower, food, some air. Then rinse and repeat. Note how this isnt avoiding playing during variance, but limiting time spent in 1 session, which in personal experience helps alot. Overall the hardest thing in poker isnt learning the game, playing good when your running hot, the hardest thing is coping with variance, variance is a killer, it can make or break someone, if you can learn to handle it, and admit to it it will greatly improve your game.
